EVENTS ON THE COAST

Many people flock to the coast for wine festivals, music festivals and film festivals.  We are all in for those events that happen earlier in the year, but there are a charming set of events happening in August, September, and October.

ART IN THE GARDENS – August 6th and 7th

The Mendocino Botanical Gardens is a gem on the coast.  Known for their rhododendrons, the gardens also include beautiful perennials, unique and practically Jurassic succulents, heaths and heathers, and beautiful winding pathways to see it all.  One of our favorite events is Art in the Gardens and happily it is this coming weekend.  Tickets are still available, so please join us if you have a chance.

POINT CABRILLO LIGHT STATION LENS TOURS – August 6th, September 3rd, and October 1st

We are completely in love with Point Cabrillo Lighthouse, California Historic Park.  In addition to the Lighthouse itself, there are guest cottages that allow more people to experience the magic of this beacon and its location on the coast.  But the first Saturday of August, September and October, visitors can climb to the top of the lighthouse to experience a tour of the Fresnel lens.  Tours are led by docents of the Pt Cabrillo Lightkeepers Association and occur between 10am – 3pm.

SECOND SATURDAY & AUGUST LAUNCH PARTY – August 13th

The historic Village of Mendocino hosts Second Saturday events each month.  In August, Lansing Street Gallery launches the spectacular work of Rosemary Allen, Michael Doten, and Craig Hathaway.  Rosemary is a locally based, but regionally renowned oil painter.  Michael Doten and Craig Hathaway are talented woodworkers showcasing fine furnishings and live-edge redwood. Join us on the LSG deck from 4 – 8pm and stroll the charming village.

MUSIC IN THE REDWOODS – Saturdays in August and September

An event organized by The Skunk Train, Music in the Redwoods is just as delightful as the title suggests. Board the Skunk Train to the glen and enjoy music under the stars. Full bar available. This is a 6pm – 9:45pm activity, so plan accordingly.

PAUL BUNYAN DAYS – September 2nd -5th

Since 1939, Fort Bragg has hosted Paul Bunyan Days. Events include: a parade, logging events, the Belle of the Redwoods, and more free and fun events.

SECOND SATURDAY & THOMAS T. THOMAS SOLO LAUNCH PARTY – September 10th

Thomas T. Thomas has developed an intense passion for painting and creating wonderful canvases filled with color, light and movement. A local artist and wine maker, Lansing Street Gallery’s Second Saturday in September will feature a solo show of Thomas’ powerful work. Join us 4-8pm on the deck for snacks and beverages.

MENDOCINO COUNTY FAIR – September 23rd – 25th

Mendocino County is the breadbasket of California.  Wine.  Cheese. Cider. Produce.  Livestock.  All the good things!  We love the Mendo County Fair and Apple Festival –  the rodeo, the fair foods, proximity to the Anderson Valley and some of our favorite wines. Plan a trip to Booneville to partake and then jaunt out to the coast to cool off!

SECOND SATURDAY & YARI OSTOVANY – October 10th

Yari Ostovany categorizes his work as Atmospheric Abstraction with one leg in Abstract Impressionism. A northern California artist with an international reputation. We’ll be launching Ostovany’s October show during Second Saturday in the village.  We hope you can join us on the deck at LSG 4-8pm.

Lots of fun on the Coast!  Let us know if you need recommendations.  Also, check out our Blog post from Nov/Dec 2021 for lodging and things to do along the drive!
