Klein - Douglas Squirrel - 12x18" metal print with French cleat
The work of local photographer Jon Klein is a celebration of the beauty of the Mendocino Coast. His favorite subjects to photograph are wild birds and animals, misty forest scenes, powerful ocean waves, and dramatic coastal views. This piece is a 12x18" metal print of a Douglas Squirrel. Douglas Squirrels are a type of small squirrel common in the conifer forests of coastal California. They normally nest in holes in trees, but this hole was an in-broken section of Redwood trunk that I set up in my yard next to a feeder full of sunflower seeds. To reach the seeds, the squirrels had to climb through the hole. I put a motion detector there to trigger a camera and flashes as they went in and out.
