The work of local photographer Jon Klein is a celebration of the beauty of the Mendocino Coast. His favorite subjects to photograph are wild birds and animals, misty forest scenes, powerful ocean waves, and dramatic coastal views. This piece is a 12x18" metal print of a female Allen's Hummingbird drinking nectar from an ornamental fuchsia near his home in Fort Bragg, CA. Jon had set up a motion detector to trigger his camera and high-speed flashes whenever anything visited the one cluster of flowers. Usually there are a few new photos each day, always a female and juvenile Allen's hummingbird or bumble bees. This image was my favorite after leaving the camera system running after about 2 weeks.
